Great - yes a short dry time is critical. As I’m sure to not be bothered to lube before going to sleep every night.
I am testing the Dumonde right now. As a immersion wax convert, it really hurts to see my cassette getting dirty with oil again after all those years. The Dumonde lube does indeed attract some dirt, but as it is a quite thin lube it is also easy to wipe clean and it doesn’t become thick like Squirt does around the pulley wheels if you use it without letting it dry first after application.
I will only use it for the bikepacking race, afterwards I’ll clean everything again and go back to waxing.
I had already prepared a new chain for the race (stripped and waxed with Silca immersion wax). Do you think I could start with the waxed chain and top it up with Dumonde when it gets noisy, or would it be better to strip the wax again and start straight away with lube?
I can’t see why you can’t start with a waxed chain and then when the wax has worn off use the Dumonde lube. I’ve done that when bikepacking in Scotland. Although my wax was washed off more than worn off. Used Silca Synergetic and gave my chain a wipe down at night before reapplying lube. On really wet days, of which I’d a few, I’d re-apply through the day if the chain sounded bad.
Second the squirt. Water based carrier so easier to travel with, and cleaning in the go is easier than a synthetic lube.
