Hi Everyone, reading the tech manual I think(?) Campy’s first choice is to install these dry. Second, if out of spec, to install with retaining compound. Do I have this right? Thanks ! ![]()
Yeah, cups into the frame dry if it’s a carbon shell, unless the frame is out of spec, in which case put the frame in a box and get it replaced under warranty.
If it’s pressfit into a metal shell, use some anti-sieze grease if you ever want to get it back out again.
Thanks! I thought I was reading this correctly. Thinking Campy’s spec would override Time’s in this case?
I suggest you may want to consider the warranty details of the frame manufacturer. If not following the manu instructions of gluing the BB cups voids the frame warranty, that could be a bigger issue than buying a new set of Campagnolo BB cups.
Hi, thanks for the reply. Totally get your point about the warranty. It’s definitely something to consider. I did write Time about this (they use Park RC-1 but said I am free to install dry if I want). I may write Campy to see what they think. Maybe part of using a retaining compound here (Campy specs using a specific primer and retaining compound) is to prevent galvanic corrosion between the carbon fiber and the aluminum cups? If really going down a rabbit hole, Time’s spec above (Loctite 648) is related to securing bearings in the shell which is a bit of different situation (maybe?) than installing the UT cups, where the bearings are installed on the crank axle.
Hi Everyone,
Adding a wrap-up post. Both Time and Campy NA have recommend Park AP-1 and RC-1 for the install.![]()
