Bulk sealant options for a shop

At our modest-sized shop, we use loads of 1L Stans bottles for our workorders, occasionally using Orange Seal by request. I just caught wind of the Stans OnTap system, but not sure that the investment in the system, or space needed to house it, make sense for our shop. I’ve often wished for at least a gallon-sized container to help with waste, and possibly cost, but haven’t landed on a sealant we feel good about in the southwest. I know that Muc-Off does ginormous containers, but reading tests of this stuff makes me really want to steer clear (yes I know it smells nice). Now I’m also seeing that WTB does gallon containers, but we don’t have loads of experience with this stuff. Quick reviews make it seem about as good as Stans, but would appreciate feedback if anyone has any. For clarity’s sake, we have a shop in the high-desert of New Mexico, riddled with goatheads and some cactus/mesquite thorns.

All that to say…does anyone have a sealant, available at purchase in larger volume, that works for them?

I have struggled with the same issue. It seems that a lot of the sub standard brands sell sealant in big 5L jugs, but not any of the brands I would actually stand behind using. I think Orange seal you can get in a 2L bottle.

We’ve used the Vittoria which comes in 5L jugs, but the glitter in it gets EVERYWHERE. They say it’s environmentally ok but I won’t be buying it again.

Joe’s No Flats, Squirt, and Peatys all do 5L jugs and seem to work ok. As far as I can tell, Joe’s is the most similar to Stans.

If Orange Seal did 5L bottles it’d be a no brainer for most workshops I think.

I have used Peatys in my shop for the past couple of years. Highly rated it and you can get 5L containers.

This is not a help to you, but Gila Hike & Bike?

I’m originally from Las Cruces and loved that shop!

Just a random thought (and why Stan’s hasn’t done bigger quantities until the release of its agitator machine) is that mixing sealant is a pretty vital component for it to work correctly.

Shaking a 5 kg jug isn’t a low-effort task. Easy enough to fix if you hold onto spare 1L bottles…

To your question. I’ve found Joe’s Super Sealant and the newer WTB sealant to be roughly comparable to Stan’s Regular. Works reliably enough.

Thanks to all of the feedback, and @Dave_Rome , I’ve already been thinking about avoiding the settling of the sealant. I figured we’d shake the living hell out of the ginormous bulk bottle, then funnel it into old saved Stans bottles. I emailed Joe’s to inquire about setting up a wholesale account, WTB will be way easier. I’m going to assume that WTB will be more palatable for customers since they are a known brand.

Funny enough, we’ve had issues getting new WTB tanwalls gravel tires to seal (so much air escaping those sidewalls), and upon calling customer service, they claimed that only their sealant, or Orange Seal, would do the job. In some ways, that’s a good plug for WTB since Stans truly does struggle in that regard.

Ding ding, we have a winner!
