I’m interested in trying out a split nose saddle, to achieve the forward pelvis tilt that Ronan recommends. I don’t need it to be light weight or aero, I just want to try out the position for a while to see if it might work for me. Can anyone recommend a relatively affordable option?
Not all split nosed saddles are created equally, nor will one that’s perfect for me necessarily be right for you. That said, I am a big fan of ebay or local marketplaces for testing saddles. They’re often dirt cheap for metal railed models and you can resell it via the same platform if it doesn’t work, or if you decide to upgrade to a nicer version.
Any local triathlon clubs or Facebook groups you could ask?
Update: I bought the Fabric Tri Elite for $68. I set it up with the same reach. I was previously at -3 deg tilt, but just a lap around the block and I was slipping off the front. Reducing to -1 deg eliminated the feeling of falling forward. Subjectively, being in the drops or 90 deg arms on the hoods feels more comfortable. Only have 90 minutes on it but so far so good, no hands/arm discomfort and certainly less pressure up front in the tender region.
