I have work trip coming up in September and have a Saturday to myself in the Brussels area. Hoping to rent a nice bike and enjoy 2-4 hours of riding. I’ll have a car but don’t want to spend hours driving. I’ve not been to Belgium, suggestions?
Oudenaarde is about an hour by car from Brussels - many bike hire places and the tour of Flanders cycling museum is at the start of three colour coded loops of varying lengths that take in many of the bergs and cobbles of De Ronde…
I would plan a route in the East of Brussels (Hoeilaart, Overijse, Huldenberg with the Smeysberg, Duisburg…) and more down towards the South of Brussels (think of Wavre, Villers-la-Ville, Waterloo…). You may try to rent a bike at f.i. Overbike or Filip Sport.
there’s so many options for rides, depends on what you’re looking for. coureur also have route proposals on their website. enjoy!
While ponctuality isn’t great, train services have become very bike-friendly in our little country and there are alot of train stations spread across the countryside, at least 1 every 10km.
Belgium being so small you are never more than a 1h-1.5h train ride away from every major cycling hubs: Spa and Liège are really worth it, Oudenaarde, Huy,…
With a bit of planning ahead you can choose to either ride the best parts of LBL, Flèche, Tour of Flanders, Brabantse Pijl,…
If you wanna head for the LBL Region, I live in Liège and work at the bottom of Roche aux faucons so if I’m free I’ll happily show you around. Enjoy your stays in our small country ! Cheers
