Hey all . I have a hope 30mm BSA BB on an alloy Mtb. I need to replace the bearings. Would there be any problem with just punching them out while leaving the cups in the frame? Or is it best to remove the cups? Seems like leaving them in saves a bit of faffing about.
Keeping them in the frame usually makes removing the bearings easier, but i’d recommend removing the cups once you get the bearings out anyway to clean up the threads etc ![]()

Yep, you’re on the right track. Absolutely no need to remove the cups if all you need to do is replace the bearing. While they are significantly more expensive than the throw-away options it’s one of the nicest things about these BSA designs. Buy once, cry once and you can upgrade/downgrade them or change the configuration in the future.
