App access to Edge 1040 solar music controls

I will sometimes ride with an Pixel Pro 2 earbud in one ear listening to spoken word podcasts which are streaming from my Pixel 10 Pro phone. Sometimes, especially if I’m wearing long fingered gloves, it’s easier to use the skip button on the Edge 1040S music controls screen than double tapping the earbud to get past ads etc. This should be a straightforward 30 second jump through the podcast, but on several occasions in the last couple of weeks instead of skipping a pod I’ve been switched over to Spotify and have had the last music that I was listening to (off the bike) streaming into my ear. Last time it did this (yesterday evening) I hadn’t even had Spotify open since the last restart. As I never listen to music when riding, I’d like to fully disconnect Spotify from the Garmin, but as I can’t find a setting for this on the 1040 I assume it’s something I need to do on the phone or in the app. Would appreciate any thoughts and advice on how to proceed. Thanks.

On my Garmin 1050 I see what is playing and also what the Garmin will control. That sometimes takes a moment to load, but works most of the time. However, and I think you are referring to those moments it will just not pick up what my phone (Google Pixel 8 Pro in my case) is playing and use Spotify. It doesn’t happen often, but I think this is more an Android issue in my case as I see the same thing on my Garmin Forerunner 965.

This is how it should look when I’m playing a podcast. I cannot reproduce it now, but I have faced this issue as well.

Thanks. The 1040 doesn’t have the row of icons at the bottom, which is why I’m unsure of what it is I do that triggers the switch over to Spotify from Podcast Addict. It has crossed my mind that it’s an Android issue as it’s only really happened since I upgraded the Pixel 7 to 10.

Those buttons in the bottom have nothing to do with the music controls. They are more the tabs to various widgets. In this widget I have no option to select anything such as the app in android that is used to either play music or a podcast.

The only thing what comes to mind is that Spotify can be pretty dominant on your lock screen. I sometimes I have that I’m playing a podcast and that Spotify still shows on my lock screen. That might be the exact same moment this could happen.

Hmm, the lock screen dominance is a good shout. I think it’s time to sit down and do some concerted experimenting. Could certainly be the Pixel, I’m getting really irritated by the way it automatically reduces earbud volume after 15 minutes, something which I believe can’t be over ridden. Between that and the switching to Spotify I might have to consider reverting to a wired headphone.

I don’t have that volume thing with any of my headsets, but I don’t have any pixel headset only a surface headphones, a Jabra one and my aeropex shokz. So this might be a pixel bud thing. I’m running them on my pixel 8 pro on android 16, but also on 14 and 15 never seen this behavior.
