Acetone to Remove Tubeless Rim Tape Residue on Carbon Rims

What is IPA ?

I’m sure it’s not India Pale Ale

Isopropyl Alcohol

Feel the need to emphasise how toxic some solvents can be. My Dad was poisoned with Xylene through inadvertent workplace exposure - nearly killed him at the time (severe liver necrosis) and arguably linked to his eventual death (cancer) about a decade later. Be careful, or better, don’t use the nasty ones if you don’t need to!

Sorry if this was already mentioned, but I think I remember hearing this on Geek Warning - crepe eraser. It’s a little natural rubber eraser but it does seem to work pretty well. It’s grippy against the residue and does a decent job and removing it mechanically without damaging the rim. Might be worth a try in combination with the other methods mentioned

I use nail varnish remover, for tape residue and removing sealant on carbon rims, I dislike the smell however and it also strips printed decals of colour. The reply from Lyrebird_Cycles_Mark_Kelly is excellent, saving that for information!
