About the Routes category

If you’ve got a killer route then share it here! Routes will be displayed on a clickable-map and our hope is to create a global directory of great rides. If you’re visiting somewhere you can check the map for good routes in the area.

To create a route be prepared with a start location, link to a route file and some details about the surface type, terrain and refuel points along the way. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jase and everyone.

I’m going to Rhodes in Greece this summer and would usually hire a bike. Anyone been and have some suggested routes? Either off road or on road.

Generally, I find the Greek roads even worse than the UK, so probs Grvl would be my preferred option but open to suggestions

Thanks in advance.

Ross

I think perhaps it might be better to create an “EC Europe” topic in Community > Local Communities and ask your question there for some more visibility. Let me know if you need a hand with that!

This sounds like fun! My routes aren’t epic but they’re cool for my area. I just posted for help on the tech what to buy on the best platform for plotting your already known route (vs a route generator). Any input??

Personally I find the Strava Route Builder to be quite easy to use. However it’s a paid feature.

Hi Jase. Question: Is it ok to post virtual routes here? My local riding group that’s based in Wilmington, Delaware USA has begun to record and post some of our regular group ride routes on Rouvy. We conduct regular Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday group rides on Rouvy during the cold months where we sometimes use our local routes (although we also use some of the thousands of great Rouvy routes from all over the world). Our local routes are also available for anyone on Rouvy to use on their own. Anyway, I’m interested in sharing in case others want to explore our beautiful area. Let me know. Thanks.

Hi Mark - I think that’s completely fine and will be useful information for sure. I’ve created an virtual tag that you can apply to route topics to make it clear which topics relate to virtual routes.

Please create the topics as per usual but include in the virutaltag if the topic relates to a virtual route.

Greetings from the Ariege. Honestly, anywhere one rides in the Ariege or Aude departments is going to have a fantastic ride. Example, after one three hour ride, I told a friend that I’d only seen 8 cars. His response: why were on on such busy roads? Any “white” road (so called on a Michelin or IGN map) and commune road will be great. Like one car per hour. These are farm roads, so they’re bumpy, but not potholed. A 28 mm tire is fine. I ride 32 mm, as that allows me to ride the occasional dirt track if I want (or the voie vertes).

I tried to share a couple of my favorites, but this app wouldn’t let me upload .fit or .gpx files

I am on Strava as Christopher James (Foix) and Ridewgps as Christopher J.

Happy to send some routes if there’s an easier way to do so. We do ride all year here. “Normally” it’s 10 C or above, but just in the last week it was 21 C one day, and then yesterday, my wife and I had a few snow squalls (and then it’s supposed to be 24 C again by Sunday..)

N.B. our lack of traffic also means that it’s like riding in the western US. No towns, few cemeteries to refill your water bottle, etc. Best to bring your food with you. I even carry a small first aid kit when I ride alone.

If you plan your route well, you can make it so you go through a town with a cafe and/or bakery/restaurant. I use Ridewgps and IGN maps to plan. I’ve found the Strava tool goes on busier roads, and there is no need for that here.
