Anyone here gone through hell with this p/m? I have been back-and-forth with 4iiii over the past year. They have replaced the crankset twice now. Issues remain - inability to link left and right sides with the 4iiii app, drop outs (~20 on a 2 hour ride), inconsistent reads, etc.
Honestly the worst experience I have had with a cycling product across the board, hands down. Anyone else have crazy challenges with this product? Would love to compare notes.
Only have experience with the 4iiii single side power meter and it’s never let me down. Sorry for all the headaches. Power meters are the kind of thing that need to be reliable to actually be useful.
Sorry you are having issues. As a data point, have had several double sided over the years on different Shimano cranksets. They have been very reliable for me, enough so they remain my go to. Any issues have been addressed by customer service without recurring problems. I do agree the app could be a bit better, but it doesn’t need to be used often and it gets the job done. I am sure customer service mentioned this, but the bitter coating batteries typically sold in the US these days, and maybe elsewhere, can cause problems as the coating can impact the battery connection. Cleaning the coating off or using “industrial” versions of the 2032s (supposedly no coating) is often advised. Best of luck.
Hi Kyle, I would have said no until just over a week ago, my 4iiii PM had been fine. Then just before I was away to leave the hotel to start the Tour de Stations at 01:45hrs it decided not to work properly, kept getting error 1099. Only saw the L/H PM on the app and hurriedly tried a new battery which didn’t help any, the P/M wouldn’t zero. This was infuriating because earlier the previous day it had worked fine.
When I got home it was still not working, so with some checking I got the R/H PM to work by gently bending out the battery contact tab. It’s been fine since.
I’ve a stages PM on another bike and it works fine with no issues like this and a previous bike had a 4iiii PM and it worked fine during my ownership.
Why it decided to play up just at that time but it was not a welcome start to a 16hr ride that’ for sure.
This is really interesting… I’ve narrowed down (this round) of tech challenges to something that sounds familiar. Drive side sensor works fine, consistent. Non-drive side, will not connect, but I have found that if I loosen the battery cover bolts (too far for what would make me feel good while riding), the unit will light up, connect, and function normal.
The piece that you bent - is it the + or - connection point for the CR2032 battery?
I tweaked the + terminal tabs to get the DS PM working. I’ve a hooked pick that I got behind the tab and just ‘adjusted’ it ever so gently so it made a better contact on the battery.
I use alcohol to wipe down the battery to ensure there’s no residue left behind after removing the sticker on the - side of the battery just incase that causes any problems as well.
I had a single sided 4iiii random number generator. It was good for what it was, but I replaced it with a crank that measures my power output and really like that experience a lot more.
It sucks that you’re having issues. I own three different generations of 4iiii power meters (Precision, Podiiiium, Precision 3+) and have never had those issues that you’re experiencing. Podiiiium and Precision 3+ are dual sided and have no problems linking both sides with the 4iiii app. I think it’s almost 9-10 years of owning the first Precision, 7 years with Podiiiium, and 3-4 years with Precision 3+ of these 4iiii products and I love them. However, the 4iiii app is not the greatest and I wish they update it with a better and more intuitive interface. For example, the 4iiii app only allows one set of HR monitor and dual sided power meter. You cannot have multiple sets on the single App.
I have owned Stages and that was, at times, a random number generator.
Like I said, it sucks that you’re having these problems. I would be frustrated and would want something else.
Update here: kudos to Competitive Cyclist for accepting a return of this unit a year after purchase (and when 4iiii refused to stand behind the product). Back to Favero! Pretty excited to try out the new ones with interchangeable pedal bodies too - I’ve only used v1.0.
I have the favero assoima duo from years ago and have to say they are one of the most reliable tech things i’ve owned. Never had drop outs and never struggled to connect to wahoo, garmin or hammerhead. All i’ve done is charge them, calibrate them and occasionally update firmware via the app.
Same here Simon. Been on Assioma Duo since 2022 with zero issues. Switching bikes, travelling… no issues. Always consistent reads.
I’m going to give the PRO version a try this time around. Will get road cleats to replace the 4iiii. But will also grab some MTB cleats and use from time to time on a MTD of mine that does not have a p/m.
