I am going to be building up a Crux 4 frame set soon, primarily as a road bike. I currently run 32mm tires with TPU tubes and due to the state of UK roads, would like to increase to a set of 34mm on the Crux. Only issue, is other than Vittoria with the N.EXT and Rubino lines, I can’t find any other manufacturers that does a 34mm tube type tire. If anyone knows of any other options, please let me know.
Not interested in going tubeless.
I don’t see much else either. Continental, Schwalbe and Goodyear make traditional clinchers in a 32 but not wider that I know of.
I’m sure you know it, but you can run tubeless ready tyres with tubes inside. I’ve had good luck with Vittoria Corsa pro controls (tlr) and tpu tubes. At least my for my rims the pro controls aren’t too tight, which I know can be a pain with tlr tyres.
I’ve run all my “tubeless” tires with tubes, most likely since I just don’t see a need for tubeless for a tire smaller than 2.2”. It’s a PITA for sure to seat the bead. But once thats done all works just as normal.
I know you can run tubeless tires with tubes, but they are considerably heavier and from my limited experience are harder to get on an off due to the stiffer bead. Anyone tried the GP5000 in 35mm? Can they be removed from a rim easily enough by hand?
No experience with the 35s, but the 28 and 32 sizes have been easy to get on and off on any rim I’ve used them on. The usual advice applies: make sure the bead is in the center groove of the rim and you will be golden.
Considerably heavier yes, if you use butyl tubes. Not so much so with latex or TPU.
Been pretty impressed with the Next line—would run those without hesitation.
Challenge strada Blanca in 33mm with a high-count tpi. The pure road tire strada pro I had ran narrower then advertised so maybe the 36mm could fit.
Continental makes a 35-622 GP Urban tire. At 310 gms they are lighter than the 365 gms 35-622 GP 5000 S TRs. I don’t know anything about these tires. I run 28, 30, and 32 GP 5000 S TRs on a couple of bikes and really like them. I don’t find them particularly easy to install.
I would worry more about getting the right size and performance of the tire before whether they were tubeless or not.
How have you found the durability? Lots of people on forums have said they are not very durable and start splitting after 1000km.

I have two wheelsets for my crux. I originally put the GP5K AS TR on for a trip to the Paris Roubaix sportif but I loved riding them so much I secured a second wheelset so I could switch between chunkier gravel tyres and the GP5Ks quickly.
I love riding these tyres on mixed terrain rides. They’re fast on the road and surprisingly good on decent gravel. It’s my favourite setup on the crux. Currently I run them with TPU tubes to avoid tubeless faff.
They’re not too hard to install. Depends on the wheel a bit but I find them no more difficult than GP5Ks typically are. Some good technique and it’s all fine.
Why do you want to stick to 34s? Why not 38? There’s the new Vittoria even in 42 (but builds narrow). I ride the Schwalbe Pro one 38, it’s MUCH more comfortable than the same tire in 34.
I only plan on using the bike on the road. Personally anything over 35mm is overkill for my usage. Im leaning towards the GP5000s in 35mm or the Enve SES tires in a 35mm.

I did look at these but the extra light casing version is almost £100 a tire!
I’d stick with the Corsa Next. If you’re not racing then the combination of reasonable price and decent performance is hard to beat as they are often half the price of others. Some pink tpu tubes and all is great without the slimy mess of sealant.
I just used the 32mm for a 4 day bikepacking tour of Tuscany and had no complaints as they handled road and MTB gravel well. They did puncture once but it had rained and tiny sharp flints were on the road so various Conti tyres also punctured. So I traded 1 roadside inner tube for 1 sealant swap which I think is fair.
How many miles are you getting out of a set of the Corsa NEXTs?

I patch the tires from the inside when they get a hole / rip and they last me a very long time. Probably 2x as long as GP5k?
I don’t usually wear out tyres as I have n+1 bikes. On my most used bike I get 5-6k km on the rear tyre with Corsas on nice smooth Swiss roads, then the tread is thin so it starts to puncture. After thin tread and a puncture I generally change them. So I’d expect the Next to do more than 6k and probably crumble from age before I get to that mileage.
