I’m looking for a new torque wrench in the 2-15ish range. I have an older effetto mariposa but I dislike the small handle (knurled area). I want something with a more substantive handle.
Pedro’s Demi II has been recommended but I don’t love the form factor. Is the older model Demi equally good as a few of those are still available?
How about the Wera Safetorque A1? I’ve seen the concerns about slow to set torque but I’m fine with that. Ok otherwise?
Thanks! I know there is a similar topic for larger torque ranges but I didn’t want to hijack the thread.
The Were SafeTorque has nice functionality but I’ve seen a few too many reliability issues to recommend it. Plus the drive head is extremely big which can cause clearance issues
Thanks. I’m trying to get towards a larger handle than the Effetto Mariposa (or Capri) offers. Seems like that pushes to the Demi II? Is the original Demi equally good?
I was one of the seemingly many with broken Wera Safe Torque wrenches. My brand new purchase broke within the first few days, with the wrench stuck at a certain torque setting, unable to increase or decrease by rotating the dial. I asked Wera support if they have figured out what was wrong for those encountering the same issue and have not heard back.
Threads like this are dangerous. It’s had me thinking: “hmmm, maybe it’s time to replace my ageing Effetto Mariposa?”
So I looked into the Hazet wrenches… a couple of places here in Oz list the RRP as ~AU$5.5k! (no, I’m honestly not joking.) I’m sure they’re good, but… yeah, nah. I did find them at a couple of other places for a more realistic AU$250-350ish, but that’s still too much to bother replacing a tool that I don’t believe actually needs replacing! Although I do like the advertised ability to leave them at a torque setting without impacting the calibration & accuracy.
The Capri is available on Amazon for ~AU$170, and I like the fact that it uses bits rather than sockets. I can see one of those in my future for sure.
Has anyone tried the Tohnichi QL15 (3-15Nm) in either the metal handle or yellow handle variants? With the weak yen they’re quite cheap (about 20,000 JPY which is roughly £100) for the likely high quality, although the torque measurement is clockwise only. There seem to be very few reviews, but Dave Rome is often recommending Japanese brands such as KTC, Koken, Vessel.
