I’m building up an adventure bike with the new 12 speed wireless Shimano groups (xt with ultegra shifters because I prefer the ergonomics). I have a spare Campagnolo Ekar chainring, crank, and BB that will work with the frame. Will this chainring work with the 12s Shimano chain?
I haven’t tried 12 speed, but I pretty much exclusively ran this combo on my 11sp bikes. I always thought shifting on Campy was better with a Shimano chain.
Shimano and Camy have shared a common chain dimension for years, so you should be good. SRAM not so much.
The inner plates on Shimano 12 chains stick out over the rollers slightly compared to a “standard” 12 chain, so they don’t always play nice with narrow-wide chainrings. Saying that, the ekar chainring is probably narrow enough that it won’t be a problem. Might be worth just wrapping the chain around the chainring first to see if it sits comfortably before you put everything together.
Since you already own the crankset and bottom bracket, maybe just try it? And report back.
@Kevin_Tennyson How did this go?
Update from me, I’m up in northern Alaska for work and packages take a really long time to get here. Still waiting for new chain and derailleur to arrive. Will update with whether fitment works when parts finally arrive
