This could all be in my head. The last three times I’ve replaced my tires, I’ve noticed that it feels like there’s a “flat spot” for the first 15-20 miles of riding. I’ve been using high end, folding, tubeless ready tires from two different brands. It’s irritating more than anything else because it feels like I’m bumping along the road. I’m hypothesizing that this is due to the amount of time the tires have been packaged in a folded condition combined with being wider and running lower pressures. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if I could just be imagining it. FWIW, I’ve used folding tires for years and never experienced this, but have only gone to wider (measured at 30mm) for a short time. Thanks.
Sounds like the tire bead is not seating properly. This fella pretty much covers everything you need to know: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y3PSyeRUfsk
I agree with the prior post, it could be not seated right. As it’s your first go with wider tires, it’s possible the recommended pressure is not enough to pop the head into place. You can go higher, of course don’t exceed the maximum allowed pressure of the tire or rim, whichever is lower.
Thanks for sending. Good info, but the tires both appear to be properly seated and both popped into place when I inflated them. They’re fine now, but it just took a bit of riding before they rolled “round”. Maybe it was just in my head.
It’s a common issue with newer tires where the tolerances are just tighter. A famous german podcast mechanic recently said he had bumpy tires after flats on the road for several times now.
What helps is dishwasher soap and over-inflating.
