Has anyone tried this combination? I know that Sram says that it’s only compatible with a 142mm rear but I haven’t been able to get this verified anywhere. How bad is it?

I’m about to build a bike around my D1 rim shifters and can’t make my mind up what drivetrain to get.

I would expect it to work fine, but I haven’t tried. Is the potential concern the difference in chain line for a 130 vs 142 dropout?

If so, one would think you could address that by adjusting the angle of the front derailleur when you mount it. Make sure you don’t get the wide type front derailleur though.

Yes, exactly. My frame has a 130mm rear so a slightly different chain line than what the E1 fd is designed for. The tighter cage, which seems to have improved the front shifting, was made possible by sram ditching the support for rim brakes (=130mm rear) as I understand things. Hence my hesitation.

Sounds reasonable to just line things up though.

I believe this is the exact setup I’m currently running on my rim CAAD12. From what I understand, there’s massive backward / interoperability for much of the AXS family, but permutations are daunting. Needed the older D1 shifters for rim compatibility, but at the time (late fall '24)bought current E1 derailleurs/crank/cassette/flattop chain front/rear 2x12 (10-28iirc) . As others said, make sure not to get wide unless needed (not on my setup). Been running for 2 seasons now, about 7000 miles maybe 3 chain drops.

Why not get a D1 front derailleur - availability issues, or something else?
