Wow, y’all went pretty deep on this one.
When I made the original post I wasn’t thinking about the racism controversy at all - honestly, I just think he gets a lot of press for a guy who finished a hour and a half back, and I think that is because of his grooming choices and his constant attention seeking. Have to admit I thought he would do better at Leadville tho. Now that I have checked out who he follows on IG - well, just ick. That’s a no for me dog.

Definitely sounds on like someone I wouldn’t like or support. It doesn’t bother me at all about his fashion style or desire for attention - that’s all for him to decide - but if someone has hurtful or non inclusive views no matter how good they are I don’t want them as an ambassador to anything I’m associated with.
While I watched the livestream of Leadville and support the sport and athletes, it’s a pretty marginal thing in both sports and life. He can seek all the attention he wants but he won’t ever be relevant.
I would love to see Tom Pidcock enter. Is it irrational to think he could win?

We don’t have to pretend it’s impossible or unfair to make reasonable inferences from someone’s admitted politics and associations. “Is someone cunning enough to avoid saying/doing something explicitly bigoted” is naive enough that “they’re eating cats and dogs” wouldn’t qualify as racist, even though it obviously is to anyone without a vested interest in pretending otherwise.

Yeah, but there are absolutely loads of cultural associations with Trump, and racism (and un-PC-about-race) doesn’t drive all of it. There’s also the fact that Trump significantly increased his vote share among black and Hispanic voters across his presidential campaigns.
Do I think Trump feels racial animus toward non-whites? Probably, though likely not as much as the animus he feels toward people who openly oppose him.
Do I think all Trump fans feel racial animus? That’s a much bigger step.

If you support Trump, then you are supporting racism. That then makes the supporter a racist.
Does that mean they are a hood-wearing, cross-burning racist who openly uses derogatory terms? No. But they are still racists.

Honestly, yeah Trump sucks - but that’s not my issue with Simmons. I wouldn’t be a fan if he was a Democratic Socialist who wanted to set all billionaires on fire.
