Saddle for modern fit

OK, I’ll bite.
I’m starting to be persuaded by the open hip, forward saddle fit trend. Problem is my saddles are all long, without much allowance for forward-tilted pelvis. What are some good thoughts for saddles for this position? Bonus points for saddles that don’t look like they could be used to test cyclocross tire width compliance.

I have used ISM for years to good effect, but recently tried a Ergon TT (Fwd) to cut down on thigh rub, and I like it. The Ergon looks a little more ‘normal,’ too. I know Ronan likes the Ergon TT in ‘mid’, so that’s something.

Saddle recommendations via the internet are probably worth about what you pay for them (saddles are super individual etc. etc.) But, in terms of what seems to work well for a lot of people, I’d probably look at the Prologo Dimension, Specialized Power and Fizik Vento Argo. All those are on the short side with big cutouts, designed to get you tilted forward without soft tissue problems. FWIW those three are listed in order from flattest to least-flat (in my experience) side-to-side. Some folks find the Dimension and Power to be a bit wide/flat and prone to interfering with hamstrings. I find the Vento Argo to be a similar shape but a bit more rounded to avoid this issue.

Although I agree that asking for saddle recommendations on the internet is pointless..
The Selle Italia SLR Boost is the best saddle I’ve ever used

Agree with all of this, and would add that the SMP Evo series is also excellent!

Concur on the SMP EVO series. I can get into a quite aggressive road TT position with my current set upwhile still keeping my hips open.

Selle Italia SLR Boost TI 316 and Gebiomized Stride Road are the best saddles I have used this past year .

Best saddle I’ve recently converted to is the RULE Sella 3D carbon saddle; the 135mm was nearly right but I’m delighted they now have it in the 145mm: Rule Sella 3D Carbon

this is a very personal thing and you’d be best to have a shop that can either help with the saddle fit or loan saddles to try until you find the one. After my bike fit last year I switched over from a more traditional long and narrow Fizik Arrionne to a Selle Italia Novus Evo. I changed the 3D printed Fizik I had on my gravel bike this year to the same, and it’s been a very positive transition.

I’d second this; as a bike fitter I have around 40 saddles that people can borrow for extended trials. I use a mixture of factors to decide which three or four could work and then let them decide.
