Looking for some advice on Running SRAM 2x as 1x temp without a front derailleur.
Background is that I have a warranty case for my sram red e1 front derailleur and about to send it in for warranty replacement.
Can I run my SRAM road e1 2x as a 1x in the big chainring without the front der. riding in general good roads without being too worried about chain drops? I can adapt my riding to more flats and rolling hills so staying in big ring while waiting for replacement is not an issue.

I’ve done this in a pinch, but it’s not ideal. Chain retention is not great and because the chainline from the big chainring is shifted outboard a bit relative to the chainline you’d get with a 1x chainring, retention gets a lot worse if you shift down too far.
Only run this setup 1x if you can temporarily install a robust chain guide (the Wolf Tooth ones are pretty good) to keep the chain from dropping, because without a chain guide the chain will drop and it will drop to the inside and scratch up your frame.
