Rear Radar for Commuter E-Bike (no head unit required)

Impressive. This seems like it might need a YouTube tutorial to go with it. I think I may be looking for a simpler option, but I did go to Cannondale’s website to look into this as an option. Thanks!

Does it automatically connect to the watch when you turn on the radar or is something you have to turn on in the watch app every time you jump on the e-bike?

When you start the ride, you need to pair the watch with the radar which is painless - just turn on the radar and open the app. If you step away from the bike and lose the Bluetooth connection (e.g. grab a coffee) it will generally automatically repair. Sometimes, if you are away for a bit, you need to open up the app and/or turn on the radar again.

All in all, it is pretty easy.

I’d suggest something like bone conducting ‘ear phones’ (Shockz - that sort of thing). They can be synched to the radar.

If you’re on a Specialized Vado or Como you can get a wired Garmin Varia that comes up on the head unit with the traffic notifications.

It was stock on the top end models, but can be retrofitted to any of the current gen full power versions

I actually did the Varia retrofit last week on my Vado, and it’s not a fun process at all.

No update needed or any need from the dealer tool, it is a true plug and play affair (assuming you have all the necessary components). The unprotected portions of the varia and light cables are quite vulnerable from damage, and I would recommend fabricating a plate/attaching with rivnuts so road debris doesn’t cut those cables apart.

Ooh! I don’t spose it works with the lezyne radar?
I am considering getting a radar but I’m not buying anything now with micro usb.
The lezyne is top of my list atm.

Yeah, it’s basically disassemble most of the bike to get the cables connected and tucked in above the motor.

Happy with how it’s all running now?

it’s great, my only critiques of it are the inability to change alert tones/volume as well as a desire for stronger vibration feedback.

I currently have it audio muted due to how loud it is, but the vibration doesn’t transmit well through winter gloves
