Does anyone have any easy tips on how to stop my 1 month old Sram Force E1 brake lever from rattling annoyingly?
@Dave_Rome ?
The internet tells me this is not uncommon, but in my case it seems remarkably perverse considering how bad my hearing is so I can’t hear high frequency noises - but whenever I take my left hand off my left brake lever or hood, it rattles annoyingly.
I have tried adjusting the lever reach, to try and add tension to the lever, but failed to make any difference to the rattle.
If this was a cheap or old bike I’d suck it up but FFS! this bike is brand new and cost a LOT!
I have proven that I can shut it up by shoving some rubber (bike tube or rubber band) between the lever and the body at the top of the lever. So now I have a rubber band around the lever so it sits between the lever and body, but I’d really prefer a neater/more permanent solution, without having to disassemble my brand new lever(s).
If I have to take the lever apart at all to add more grease or a washer etc, I’d really want a clear video to show what to do before I start tinkering with brand new $$$ components. ;-/
Good question. Mine rattles too, unless my hand is on it. The left one more than the right. I’ve been assuming it’s just a figment/tolerance thing, but agree it shouldn’t be at that price point.
Sounds like a good time to take it back to your place of purchase. It may require a warranty replacement.
This is where I swear about having bought from a Melbourne store because they had the only Crux left in my size on this side of Aus. My local stores have little investment in my nice new bike. ![]()
I was also thinking this feels like a stupid waste of resources to replace this component over a silly noise.
I will definitely follow it up with local stores and mechanics - and maybe Sram direct?
It’s curious that it’s the left lever that’s worse for 2 of us.
Discourse needs a thumbs-down emoji reaction.
