Polished titanium care?

Hi fellow Escapees

Any thoughts on making my polished titanium bike frame look the best possible ?

I wash it and wipe it down with various commercial polishes ( like Silca ceramic or lemon pledge), but I always seen to have a bit of oil slick like finish as opposed to the nice shiny gloss I’m looking for.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The makers of my TLab titanium bike recommended Pedro’s Bike Lust applied with a cloth. Working great for me so far

I have a brushed finish Ti that I use Weiman stainless steel cleaner on which adds a decent luster and removes dirt and sweat spots between proper washings.

I was recommended Nilglass (a standard glass cleaner) for my frame, which is brushed rather than polished. I think the rationale was it provides some friction for a microfibre cloth to polish but is volatile enough to evaporate before it leaves behind any streaks. At least I think that is the explanation for why it works well on glass. Maybe worth a try if you have some kind of glass cleaner at home.

Colin.

Thanks !

Is your frame polished titanium ?

Partially, not completely

Thanks again.

I will try it .

Tom Sturdy recommended wiping the frame over with GT85 after cleaning on the brushed Ti he built for me. It keeps it looking good, and who doesn’t have a can of that in the workshop? Just keep it away from your brake discs!

I’d think a basic paste wax(apply, let dry, buff off) would give you the “hard” finish you want. Spray polishes often do seem to leave a slightly oily finish.

This sounds like it might work, although I forgot to mention I have etched logos.

Do you think the wax would collect in the etching and be difficult to polish out ?

Thanks for your advice.

Dave

Thanks John !

Thanks again Peter.

I used the wax today and it works well, just like you advised !
