The paint on the frame if my 2024 BMC Road Machine is getting a bit chalky. It is the blue colour with a slight matt finish. Been washed weekly using CT 18 truck wash, dried and stored inside.
I’d like to polish it up a bit and make the surface more aqua phobic. Any suggestions?
Not an option for polishing it up but every bike I get now gets a ridewrap before I build it. Keeps the paint nice and I don’t worry as much about keeping the frame clean.
I keep using automotive paint wax on my bicycles, which make the finish both hydrophobic for a while and also filter UV rays. Not a good idea for my titanium Litespeed, but works fine on my carbon frames.
I have not found or tested with a ceramic finish yet, some day…
Gtechniq launched big a year or 2 ago when GCN featured it and it sold out, but it’s a durable ceramic coating that bonds to any organic surface (paint, lacquer etc). Did all our personal bikes a year ago and dirt is still less likely to stick and water still beads off noticeablely. A buddy did his Porsche and then his bike with what was left over and has similar results. You can do the frame, forks, cranks, carbon wheel rims (disc brake!) etc
For brand new bikes I install a Ride Wrap kit and then Gtechniq over the kit and other areas of the bike - I’ve crashed gravel bikes and the Ride Wrap has scuffed (and my Shake dry has torn ) but the paint underneath has remained unscathed.
Muc Off do a similar kit but the cynic in me suspects it’s just Gtechniq in different packaging.
