On-bike pump recommendation

Haven’t used the tattico. Picked up a Silca frame pump for the look as much as anything but haven’t used it much in anger yet either (for inflation or for walloping people)

The lezyne is great aside from the unthreading issue, mine did come with a thread-on push fit presets adapter but you can’t leave that on and then refasten the hose.

Intrigued by the tattico now but I will hold on to the imperial until i need to use the damn thing (for inflation or walloping)

Lots of recommendations for the Tattico; while its a great pump (partner has one), its a little large for my liking and doesn’t go easily in a pocket. I have an Impero, and it works very well and is currently 40% off. The hose and chuck on the Tattico/Gravelero is easier to use, but I really like the compactness of the Impero.

And agree that Silcas pumps are far superior to the other brands, especially after long term use.

Silca Tattico for sure. Daysaver just came out with a new one that could be a consideration…

I picked up a 40cc wolftooth pump earlier this year for my gravel/road rides. I had to use it for the first time last week and it was a pleasant experience. While it is smaller in volume than the oneup on my mountain bike, it has a very similar fit/finish/feel to it. Which is to say a very good fit/finish/feel.

Yep +1 for Tattico. I bought one and after using it a few times, I bought another one for my other bike.

Btw, if you want a cheaper alternative with the same pumphead; Cannondale makes one (I bought their gravel version).

Just came in to add to the “fkng Lezyne” cursing. I always check any spare tubes now for removable cores and threadlock them in. I can’t escape the feeling that I must be doing “something” wrong in causing it though.

I have a floor drive on the MTB attached to the bottle cage and that’s fine, but I like a pump to be hidden in my tool bottle on the road.

The best one I ever really used was a full length frame pump I used to carry on my winter commuter/hack. Unfortunately it fell off one day when there was a bus behind me. So long pump.

I have to say, I feel a good amount of relief to hear that so many others have issues with these Lezyne pumps. Happy it’s not me :grinning_face:

The wolftooth looks really nice. I also love their commitment to right to repair. If I hadn’t gone for the Silca, this one would have been a hot contender.

Another +1 for the Tattico. Easy to use, reliable, doesn’t unscrew the valve core, gets up to a good pressure quite quickly in a road tire. Not half bad for a gravel tire either. And built to last.

I morn the apparent extinction of non-mini on-bike pumps. I know there are still a couple of frame pump options out there but those usually a bit obtrusive to carry. Our drop bar bikes have skinny 350-400mm long pumps that fit just like mini-pumps beside the bidon cage, but these no longer seem to exist.
These pumps are so much more effective at inflating road tyres compared to the short pumps that are now available, because their length gives them a useful volume but they are easy to pump due to their narrow bore.
Despite this they were very inexpensive when new. I just didn’t know I should have bought some spares!
I can only assume that no-one else wants these pumps any more because I have spent many hours searching and can’t find any.
I had a renewed need for such pumps when we bought clik valves recently because our larger bore pumps were too hard to use with the resistance of the clik valves without a clik adapter. The narrow bore pumps had no such problem. If I could buy more of these old skinny “high pressure” road bike pumps, I would grab them in a heartbeat.
I did consider getting the Tattico pump but on paper it is still much shorter and larger diameter than the pumps we have.

I also wish I could replicate the pump mount that I had on my custom steel road bike in the 90s, which had the old school frame pump mounting pin on the seatstay, so the full sized Zefal frame pump sat on the front of the seat stay, clear of panniers and clear of legs or arms or shoulders when riding or carrying the bike.
I gave that bike away and doubt I could replicate that attachment on my existing bikes.

I used to half unscrew cable cores on tubes, put a tiny blob of super glue on them, and screw back in. That meant no unscrewing with a hand pump. Otherwise I found the thread interface much better than the clamping one for inflating. Must have had that pump model as well!

I for one like the Lezyne pumps. Have one of the mini-pumps on the roadbike and a mini-floor pump for the gravel. Both work fine and I would definitely get the floor pump again in a heartbeat. Using it is just waaay more comfortable than a hand-use-only-pump. We’re currently on a bigger trip and (knock on wood) so far it hasn’t missed a beat. Also no unscrewed valve cores here, but had that on lending the minipump to others.

I have a few Topeak Road Morphs. They work quite well but seem to suffer in the weather and eventually not seal so well. I use the side-of-bottle-cage mount. I’ll have to get a Tattico based on the above.

I was once about 2.5km from the end of a 200km ride, in pitch black countryside, when I got a puncture and discovered my Road Morph was leaking. The emergency CO2 wasn’t enough to seat a 32mm tyre properly either, but I got home. Might have been quicker to walk.

-1 for the BBB Double Shot. It seems cool- small enough to fit in a small saddlebag, two pieces get screwed together to double it’s length. But when I tested it at home, half an hour of pumping didn’t get me to a rideable inflation level. I went back to CO2.

I like Lezyne mini pumps—they have dozens of variants but I think they all work basically the same. I have had the unscrewed core problem, but have learned to avoid it. I greatly prefer having a hose between the pump tube and the valve. Haven’t used the Tattico, about which I’ve heard good things. I’m probably going to get a Cyplus micro-compressor soon.

When I was touring, I used a Topeak Road Morph, since I was topping off my tires every day (I think Lezyne also has a “micro floor pump” style pump).
