Do you love your longtail cargo bike?

Have you found the ABS difficult to work on? Honestly my first thought when that product line released was “great, more stuff that probably exceeds my capacity to fix it at home and has expensive replacement parts that are impossible to source”. I do live somewhere with basically no hills, so my perspective is informed by those conditions.

(As for a popping by, first pint on me if you open a satellite location in Leeds — that is about as close to London as I am likely to be any time soon, which is to say not very close :joy: . In all seriousness, that’s one of the things I appreciate about this community and thank you for the nudge).

Helpful reply! I’d like to pick your brain. We’re looking at a tern GSD vs yuba mondo (in Australia and that’s what I’m aware of locally). 3 kids under 5 so thinking the Mondo might have more space.
Any others I should be considering?

I would say that the mfrs pay so much attention to the ABS that we haven’t had to faff with any of them at all yet on new bikes! They are all perfectly setup and seem to stay so for the first year we’ve had the bikes in stock. Let’s see how that goes - though having done the Bosch training there is nothing I’m scared of doing. I genuinely love the ABS and wish it was on all cargo bikes.

I’d happily have a pint up in Leeds (or at least a cup of tea made with Yorkshire water…)

If you want to carry three kids, the GSD is a wonderful bike, but not for this (unless you really want to cram them in, or take a trailer). I love the Bike43 but don’t think it’s available down there. I always say it depends how well the kids get on, but get the one with the space! (Normally I just say get a GSD). Isn’t the spicy curry slightly longer than the Mundo?

thanks for the reply, I need to try out both the yuba options, but not many down where I live… Cheers!

Wow, this post is nearly a year old! Following up to say: We ended up buying one of the, if not the last Riese & Müller Load4 75s sold in the US of A. Absolute blast. It’s in many ways less practical than a longtail, but I love being able to talk with the kids more easily — and riding the thing is just so fun. Zero regrets. Thanks again to everyone who wrote in.
