Define gravel

I think it would be fun and useful to refine use-case-categories for bikes somewhat. Here’s my shot at it:

A – road = you dislike bad tarmac and would rather circumnavigate a short gravel section
B – allroad = you can do anything, but you prefer routes with >70% tarmac
C – gravel-road / graveltravel= you prefer gravel, but if it’s a day with pure tarmac, so be it. All fun, all slow
D – gravel = optimized for gravel and rough stuff, riding on pavement is a bit annoying

I’m curious of what you think? Would you make more categories? Name/define them differently? Please improve!

You may not be surprised to learn that others have gone down this rocky path before you. Industry Standard Guide to Gravel (ISGG) - The Unpaved Hub

It’s all a scam anyhow, I’ve ridden 20+ miles of cat 3/4 gravel (using your link) on a Caad12 and 28mm schwalbe pro ones. It was a dumb idea…

The only thing that makes a gravel bike a gravel bike is the tires and where you ride it.

Every bike is a gravel bike…..
