Deep Winter Weather Resistant Bib Tights

A little less known but I’ve been buying Bioracer’s Spitfire Tempest Protect bib tights for over a decade. They’re the best I’ve found. They have a proper, almost wetsuit-like membrane which is totally wind proof (the most important factor in staying comfortable), are highly water repellent (and it lasts well as it’s a membrane not a coating) and have a good fleece layer. The pad doesn’t look like much but I’ve found it very comfortable on 200k Audaxes. I’ve ridden them down to -7 degrés and up to 10.

I only have two minor gripes: they’re not quite as flexible due to the insulation, though this might be because I stay a little stiff when it’s that cold, and back in the day they had better reflective details (pixel) but they’re still generous compared to Castelli and the likes who just want you to get run over in black clothing.

Stolen Goat usually sell them in quirky colours under their own name but Bioracer manufacture them.

There’s Assos Equipe RS, then everything else. All the downsides mentioned about the other options don’t exist with these. Yes they are crazy expensive but there’s nothing better. If you absolutely have to keep moving they are the best.

As an update to this i tried some Pedaled Odyssey bib tights as they were on a big sale and can’t say I’m impressed with the weatherproofness. They are a decent set of tights otherwise, at sale price I’m not too fussed. I’m just going to get some over trousers for the really grim days

I’ve been super happy with a pair of Lusso Paragon Deep Winter Bib Tights - made in the UK (Manchester) and great in the cold and damp.

Overpants are probably the way to go. I am happy with the warmest Rapha Bib tights (explore I think) down to -15C, as long as it is dry, but when it is wet, shell pants help. The Q36.5 ones are pricey, but really work well.
