Bubble in Tubeless Contin 5000

Anyone ever experience a tubeless Conti getting a bubble that sprayed sealant everywhere? Is it wear? A defect? Damage from debris? It eventually stopped to get me the .5 mile home. The tire is not cut but if I push the bubble air comes out.

I’ve never seen that in many miles on Conti 500str tires. But, boy, I’d ditch that tire.

I recently purchased a schwalbe g-one rs pro 45mm and after about 10 min of inflation (hadn’t yet added sealant) it developed a few little delaminations like this. I emailed the shop I bought it from (Pushys in Australia) with some photos and they sent me out a new tyre and asked for the batch number so they could report the fault to schwalbe.

Not sure how many KMS that tyre has, but I still think it shouldn’t be delaminating like that

I’d send that pic to where ever you bought the tire. Also if possible, I’d contact Continental and try to send them a pic. Maybe you’ll get a new tire or maybe a discount on a new tire. If nothing else, it might give Conti something to look into.

I wouldn’t ride it though. That looks like something that’s primed to become a big hole.

Have experienced same phenomenon with a Maxxis Rambler after significant wear; there is some breach in the casing, and a degree of separation between the tread layer and the casing with air / sealant escaping and creating that “bubble” you see & feel. If you ride it, the bubble will wear / break pretty easily and effectively create an open air leak from the tyre. More concerningly, cannot know how widespread the “delamination” between casing & tread may be, nor how that may behave under stresses of braking / cornering etc…. I would NOT ride the tyre. Worth reporting to manufacturer, but they may not consider it a “fault” depending on how worn the tyre is.

Thanks everyone. I replaced the tire today. Shop thinks something caused the threads to breake leading to this. Sent a note to the shop where I purchased the tire. We’ll see what they say.

I’ve had Maxxis MTB tyres do that back in the 26” days, when they were at (beyond?!) end of life.

I had this problem also on some 38mm G-One Speeds about 3 years ago, sent photos to the shop and they sent me new ones with no hassle

Seen this bubbling delamination in dozens of Bontrager R3s and I warrantied them all (usually tried to encourage the customer to take the credit against a better tyre) it’s also really common in Vittoria-made tyres like the Corsa and the recently introduced Trek RSL. Never seen it in a Conti but any reputable shop should warranty it no arguments as it’s so obviously a defect not damage.
