I have a bent tooth on the inner ring of my 48/35 2x Force set of chainrings. It it causing dropped chains to the frame side. The tooth has a ridge that I can feel in the inner lip of the tooth. I did Unbound a few weeks back and it was a muddy ride. I’ve done several muddy Unbound/DK rides (and others) and have never had an issue. It’s the only “not normal” thing I’ve done on this bike recently. Anyone had this happen or have any input on a cause? I’ll work with SRAM on a possible warranty claim.
I think one could only speculate here, but probably a small rock getting between the tooth and chain. I’ve snapped teeth off chainrings, never cleaved one like pictured… Have you inspected the wider plates of the chain for any damage?
Good luck with a warranty claim, but my guess is they wouldn’t consider this defective 
Just my completely uninformed opinion but I sure don’t see that as a warranty claim.
BTW, you admit that it happened in a race so I really can not see that as a manufacturing defect.
Just adding to the ‘not a warranty’ chorus I’m afraid - that’s something that has dug into and cut the chainring, not something that has happened because the chainring is faulty.
This is damage, definitely not covered by anyone’s warranty. If it is actually bent rather than just gouged I’d straighten it first, then file off any lumps; should be an easy, quick fix.
Thank you for all the comments. I don’t think is it warranty either. I was more curious what could cause the cleaving on the tooth. I experienced bent teeth before but not the ridge. The only way to contact SRAM was with a warranty ticket to get their input.
For cause, I’d guess a chain drop or jam that forced a sideplate into the tooth.
Looks like a few strokes of a file would clean it up.
