Are fenders safe on a roof rack?

I have a bike with SKS Bluemels. Normally it gets to travel in the car, but I need to transport via roof rack soon. I’m probably overthinking this, but will the fenders be safe at car speed, or will they blow away or get damaged? The route I’ll be driving will be 60mph max, but it’ll also probably be a bit windy, and I don’t really know how fast bike fenders are expected to travel before exploding. I’m taking the approach of “remove anything from the bike that isn’t screwed on”, but the fenders seem like a bit of a special case, as they’ll catch the wind.

What would you do?

I would guess it would depend on how they are attached in the first place.
You could possibly do a short test drive. Then check to see if there has been any movement in the fitting. Also have someone follow you and video/observe how they are reacting to being transported that way.

I’ve travelled with a tourer/winter bike on my roof rack plenty of times, and it has SKS Bluemels. I don’t think I’ve driven it through side winds of more than say 30 mph, but they’re fine with car speeds of 70 mph for a few hours. Maybe check the fittings are tight before and after, and at any mid-journey stops if you’re worried, but I’ve not had any problems.
